In the middle of Bavaria’s largest lake, Chiemsee, rests one of King Ludwig II’s three major constructions during his 40 year spending frenzy. The Herrenchiemsee Castle is a partially completed homage to The Palace at Versailles in France. As extravagant as it is unfinished, it gives a dramatic insight into the King’s life and his untimely death.
Not quite as impressive as Castle Neuschwanstein, pictures inside are still forbidden. It is quite the site to behold and even thou unfinished, the setting alone is absolutely breathtaking.
The Boat used to ferry tourists from island to island has been on the water for almost 75 years.
Another stop on the tour is an island that houses an old Monastery. Hard to believe but you can even today still go there and devote your life to praying.
